Got my new wide angle lens for my Canon Vixia HF100, it’s pretty darn big compared to the camera don’t ya think? Eager to try it out now, goes without saying there is noticeable distortion on the edges which you’d expect from something like this.

Day #272a

Day #272b

Canon Blogger has a great post with images at this link. Share your thoughts on the high price tag for a crop sensor body with HD video (because they are all doing it now, soon even shopping carts will be HD!)

Me….I’m sticking with my 50D, maybe next time Canon. When you give us a full frame sensor, crop sensor at (almost) full frame sensor price tag is not a winning sales plan!

I wanted to test my new noise control plugin Dfine 2.0 from Nik Software, so went looking for a really nasty lighting situation that would use ISO800 on my Canon 50D. Here is the results, original working title was DOF OFF :) . Other RAW processing was upon loading in Adobe Photoshop CS4, believe me at the original size the ISO noise was a lot more pronounced. The plugin also works in Adobe Lightroom and Apple Aperture 2.1

p.s. I hate the crop, but it was the only angle I could find to get just one of the ‘off’ labels sharp and the others blurred.

After

Day #199 - with Dfine

Before

Day #199 - no Dfine

Canon has released an updated firmware for the EOS 50D, as always they recommend updating the software as well. Among changes are a fix for vertical banding (I have installed but not tried it the new firmware out yet).

You can find all the details along with downloads at this link.

My weapon of choice. Canon EOS 50D with 24-105 f4/L and extended battery grip.

Day #112

I had been intending to try a shot of a candle jar for a while. I always loved those shots where you see above and below water and wondered what it would be like with a candle.

Burn

This was my first test with the Canon VIXIA HF100 and uploading to vimeo.com so I am hoping everything went according to plan. Video was exported from iMovie 08 using recommended settings that I came across for HD upload to vimeo.

Canon HF100 – Test – Flowers from Peter Witham on Vimeo

It seems for some reason the code from vimeo to insert the object into the page does not work with wordpress?

An iPhone shot today,

My new Canon VIXIA HF100 camcorder that will get some serious play time so I know all the little secrets to using it right.

Day #80

I like this shot, I used Nik Software Silver Efex Pro to convert to B/W with a tint of Sepia. Shot with a 70-200 f/4L with a Canon 500 close up filter.

Day #76

Doors open and close, some good some bad but all guarantee an experience.
